The Dogwood Bloom Cross is the newest custom creation design in the Daune Price-Hannah collection. I was inspired by the dogwood flower bloom while designing the cross. Each cross is unique in it's own way because it is handmade. This copper wire woven cross design, accented with the bead color of choice, arrives with a handmade leather cord and makes the perfect gift. Pendant measures 1 1/2" wide by 2" length.
THERE is a commonly told story that the dogwood tree was chosen as the wood for the cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified. Thou there is no mention in the Bible about this it is a beautiful story and when I created this pendant I was thinking of Christ.
The 3-verse story goes like this:
The Legend of the Dogwood“When Christ was on earth, the dogwood grew
To a towering size with a lovely hue.
Its branches were strong and interwoven,
And for Christ’s cross its timbers were chosen.
“Being distressed at the use of the wood,
Christ made a promise which still holds good:
‘Never again shall the dogwood grow
To be large enough for a tree, and so,
Slender and twisted it shall always be,
With cross-shaped blossoms for all to see.
“’The petals shall have bloodstains marked brown,
And in the blossom’s center a thorny crown.
All who see it will think of me,
Nailed to a cross from a dogwood tree.
Protected and cherished this tree shall be,
A reflection to all of my agony.’”
